SINGAPORE , February 29, 2008 – Honda ICVS Singapore Pte. Ltd. (HICS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., will discontinue its Honda Diracc car-sharing service in Singapore at the end of March 2008.
In March 2002, HICS began an unprecedented multi-port car-sharing programme which required no reservations and offered users the ability to return the vehicle to or from any of the ports. With a high priority placed on customer satisfaction, the service was enhanced in October 2006 with the launch of the second-generation Civic Hybrid to the vehicle lineup.
The decision to discontinue the programme was reached as it was assessed that it would be difficult to sustain the service with the current operating system.
Honda considers it a possibility that demand for a car-sharing service will continue to exist somewhere in the world, due to increasing environmental awareness and concerns about traffic conditions. Therefore, Honda will continue to explore the opportunity where know-how obtained through this multi-port car-sharing service can be leveraged.
